Update about THE MAN and my Mom.
Wednesday is the administrative “hearing”.
I have trouble calling it a hearing though, since its not in front of a real judge, and is just a decision making step.
A few things could happen.
- They dismiss the case (Best case)
- It has to go to a real judge (Not the worst case)
- It has to go in front of a real judge, AND they throw her in jail until the hearing. (Thats the worst case)
The lawyer, in telling us that reality, is doing his job. And unfortunately, DHS has the power to arrest and detain individuals for immigration related issues.
The lawyer as well has told us that this is in 99.9% of the cases related to on-going criminal acts, or investigations of the individual. Such as, an illegal immigrant who was caught with a weapon, or drugs, or involved in some other criminal act. That just makes plain sense to me, so I understand the need to have authority to do that.
But, hey, this is my 58 year old mother, the questions are about something that happened 40 years ago!
The situation continues to be absurd in my eyes.
I’m waiting to see the outcome of Wednesdays “hearing”
